Break

POV: You finally have an empty house, with blank pages that need to be filled but you’ve been interrupted by two phone calls and six texts in the space of an hour and a half and you are now googling “Remote Cabins.”

Totally love my fam.

Anyways, realizing that I need to get Dax and Gardenia’s story out there, I am putting aside Book Four for this week and I am hoping I have a rough draft of Dax and Gardenia’s story by the end of the week (it’s supposed to be short. It’s going to be a short).

I am struggling with: Should I make this a daddy kink book? This book has a soft kink slant to it, in that Dax prefers sensory/sensual play and praise and doesn’t see the point in rope and as a former US Marine, he doesn’t want to wield anything scary in his off time.

Decisions, decisions.

I think I’m going to save the Daddy kink for a whole other series but I am so tempted. Gardenia is turning out to be way more fun than I thought she would and honestly, I’m smiling at the interpretation of “Human Resources”, as in the fact, that she is an actual resource person for all the humans of Axis Management to turn to when they need things. Between that and her loud bunch of sisters, if only someone would take care of her….

Down the River

I’m still buzzing from the release of Flame Again. If you bought it, thank you so much! It means so much to me that readers are reading my stories.

This morning, pre-coffee, I logged into ‘Zon and went to my KDP dashboard and got the message, “You have no books published.” What? Excuse me, mighty river, I just had a book out less than twenty-four hours ago! Where are my books? A few thousand deep breaths later, I realized I was logged into an old account, that I used to use a decade ago and that’s where I had clicked on my most recent book purchases. Those purchases also weren’t showing up.

I have no idea why that happened and this is the second time this year I’ve needed to cancel this account; I used to review under this account, a long, long time ago, but nothing was showing up. So after I did that, I found my way back to my author account and I re-purchased the last three books I had 1 clicked on because I couldn’t find the trail to those on any card/account, one of those books being F*ck The Patriarchy: Getting Smutty for a Cause.

Whew.

That was an hour of anxiety-inducing I could have skipped. But I got my coffee and cannoli and I’m right back to work on Nick & Mulberry’s story.

Hope you have a good Sunday, friends!

Release Day for Flame Again!

I am so thrilled Flame Again is out in the world! I am excited to share Gabe & Ivy’s story and hope readers fall in love with them, as I did… eventually. Though this book was a  trial to write in the end, I am delighted with how it came out.

Thanks so much to all my readers, ARC Readers, betas and cheerleaders. This indie author thing is a grind at times and all of the support keeps me going. The buy link for Flame Again is here. And if you want to read the first chapter it’s here. And content warnings can be found here.

If you do give Flame Again a read, I hope you find something in it that you enjoy.

Thoughts on Words And Labels and Feature Friday

By the end of today, the ceiling should be fully repaired. It is really nice not to worry about old plaster falling on our heads while we sleep.

And I’m thinking of a conversation I wadded in yesterday and how I’ve had editors tell me in the past, “if you have to explain the word you are using, you need a different word.” So that’s why I used “disabled.” I am over being personally offended by other language but for example, if I write my MP about being “differently abled” then I have to spend more time explaining what that means. When the word disabled covers it. Also, it took me a long time to be okay with using the word disabled as part of my identity.  I think whenever people remove the term ‘disabled’ and try to replace it with another word, they are glossing over society that is the problem.

Anyways, Flame Again comes out tomorrow and I am so thrilled to share Ivy & Gabe’s story! I need to get some words down on Nick & Mulberry today … I feel very nervous about this slow burn thing. Do they have enough tension? Enough angst? And I want to tap out some words on Gardenia and Dax. Oh, did I mention that Gardenia is getting her own story? And Dax is one of the new recruits of Team Stealth because they are down manpower and Xander is going to need more bodies if he wants to keep up with the private operative stuff and of course, he does. Dax and Gardenia are going to be a fun, short story and when it’s finished my newsletter people will get it first. That’s also my “carrot” for today when I’m done creating the angs with Nick & Mulberry because sometimes you need more than coffee.

Have you ever had the person you were meant to love reject you? I have, and honestly? It sucks. Alex Dunn was supposed to be my mate, but I have a past, and he kicked me to the curb as soon as he learned about it. So much for fate.

How did I handle it? I ran away, searching for a place where I could just be Amber, instead of Amber Tremaine, Homewrecker. But the new life I built for myself came crashing down when my dad died. While reeling from the loss, I have to face the pack that hates me and the mate that rejected me, and honestly, I am so not ready.

When I return, some things are exactly as I expected, but others are wildly different. For one, Alex is… nice to me. The way he’s acting tells me he might want to give us a try. However, from the things I’ve been hearing, he has a new woman in his bed every night. Couple that with the fact that he shamed me for sleeping around? Trusting his sincerity is pretty impossible.

Not that I have much time to process my ex-mate’s strange behavior, because my past is coming back to bite me again—literally this time.

Lyle is the vampire who took my v card, which would have been much more enjoyable if he hadn’t tried to murder me right after. Nobody is perfect, right?

His failure to kill me has turned into a creepy obsession that spells out danger for me, my pack, and the entire werewolf species as a whole. The only person who can save us all? Yeah, you guessed it. It’s me—the girl who messes up everything. No pressure.

Rolling Along

I go from thinking about, “Hey, we should go berry picking today”, to finding sweaters and socks for everyone because the temp has dramatically dropped by 10 degrees and it is freezing on this Monday morning.

I’m back to work on Book Four today after I remember where I left Mulberry and Nick; I think they were just headed off to the gala and Mulberry is about to be splashed across the media again, but this time it’s by her choice.

Going to find coffee now, have a good one, friends.

Not Beating the Heat

If you’re in a heatwave, especially in a place that doesn’t usually have high temps, I’m sorry. It’s awful. I hope you’re staying cool and getting through it and I wish I could send coll breezes through the internet.
We have had a few days of high temps here 30C but we’re more prepared for it-ish and usually, the temps drop here at night. What makes it a heatwave here is that those temps didn’t drop but today it’s down to 23C and rain is expected.

There was a time, before cubs where I loved, loved the heat but ever since being a person who used their body to feed their cubs….nope, can’t take it and I don’t like what the heat does to my body…so yesterday wasn’t a productive day.

But today I am on my second cup of coffee and I am trying to knock off some words on Nick and Mulberry. They’ve just decided that pretending to date is beneficial to all and now they are going to a big fancy thing and they are fighting the mutual attraction, I mean they can try and all. Nick is gonna be so surprised when he finds out what Mulberry’s been hiding. I mean, she has a few secrets but one of them is gonna topple his world and I can’t wait to get to that part.

Feature Friday July 15

Happy Friday!

This week, as my mum would’ve said, has been, “for the birds” and to go off on a tangent, I’ve been contemplating if it’s possible to feed the birds without feeding the squirrels? My cubs have taken an interest in feeding wildlife lately and I wonder if I want to bring some of that home or keep it to the critter and duck feeding at the park.
The end of the week has me working on chapters for Nick and Mulberry and formatting the paperback for Flame Again. I can’t wait till that is done and out because my TBR pile is calling my name! All of these books in this week’s Feature Friday are on it! Give them a click, add them to your TBR pile and feel free to let me know how things are going in your part of the world and if you have wildlife in your yard.
While you’re here, check out Romance Readers Bingo

A couple for the cover of One More KissAccept an offer to room with a sexy—albeit grumpy—divorcé, of course. Damon Carlisle just might have it all. He’s a senior developer of one of the hottest dating apps in the country for starters, and he’s got that whole twelve-years-older-than-me, broody-loner thing going for him. But going through a breakup means I’m in need of a solo vacation, and I won’t be giving in to temptation where Damon’s concerned. This heart of mine is closed for the summer, and no amount of fake dating is going to fix it.

When it rains, it pours.
Not always a bad thing, right? I’m on a two-week beach vacation—away from my cheating ex-wife—and soaking up the sun. Bonus, I’m set to accept an award for the countless hours and dedication I’ve given to my team. But while I should be elated… I feel utterly empty.
When Kate dances her way into what’s supposed to be my chance at a little R & R, something dormant inside my soul awakens. Having fun with her isn’t part of our agreement, and kissing her certainly isn’t either. But I can’t help myself. I can’t get enough of Miss Katelynn Harris, and she just might ruin me.

A dare wasn’t supposed to turn into a hostage situation. Get the hot guy’s number—easy—and when he asked me to go home with him, there wasn’t a chance I was turning it down.

But the gorgeous guy with the piercing green eyes was a goddamn werewolf. Just my luck. If that wasn’t bad enough, he had a centuries-worth vendetta and I wasn’t sticking around to face the repercussions of his prejudices, even if I ached for him.

Greyson

My existence revolved around my pack. They were number one. No excuses. Then she came along and upended my plans.

I hated what ran through her blood, and capturing her was a means to an end. Her kind was the scum that ruined werewolves, but my body didn’t care. I wanted her regardless of the consequences, but I had no other choice other than to stifle my obsession before I refused to let her go.

Deceitful Wolf is a full-length standalone paranormal romance featuring a werewolf with a damaged heart and a sassy heroine he’s helplessly obsessed with.

Art Can’t Always Imitate Life

It feels like forever that I have been working on Sasha and Finn but this story started off as 10k and now it’s hovering between 55k and 65k and it needs a bit more work. The question of how much “realness” can I put into a piece of smexy fiction always crosses my mind. I feel like in some cases, I’ve held back, not wanting to cross into erotica- to try and stay in one genre that is more on the contemporary romance/ romantic suspense side. And then there is the balance of the suspense arc and wanting the suspense arcs to have their storylines intact.

On the good days, I feel like my books have done that. On the days when I read a fine smutty-erotica book, I want to unpublish mine; but I can only make the next book better. And on the very crummy days, I go read about the kind things Ivy Whitaker has said about my books here.

I might just frame this quote so I have it to look at when I have doubts about this series and these two arcs that are written in every book. “I love the balance of kink and the overarching storylines that surround a private security company. It’s difficult to keep those two plot lines going without sacrificing the other, and I have to admit, I’m impressed with how Damson balances these developments.” ~Ivy Whitaker

In Sasha and Finn’s story, I did use a piece of real life, and I plunked into the setting of Club Bandit. And friends, it doesn’t work.

My beta readers thought it did for various reasons; but here’s the thing, I want to write good stories with lots of kink and spicy things; not reinvent the kink wheel.

In a group of friends one evening, a “hey check this out”, the photo was passed around and I thought about that for a long while, mostly because I am in awe of people’s astounding flexibility; you know, when you have none you kind of murmur in admiration and two, it looked beautiful.

It was a photo of a friend of a friend, suspended by aerial silks, and tied in bondage, using the aerial silks.

And when I went to add another theme room to Club Bandit as one does, this entered my mind. But it really doesn’t work. For so many reasons, not the least of which I actually didn’t write a bondage scene, but I used the aerial silks more hammock-like, as something to hold Sasha on, then tie her with, and in the recent edit, bondage is a hard limit for her anyways.
Okay, so maybe you don’t know a circus performer, certified aerial yoga teacher who likes to be a rope bunny on her off nights; fair point.

And maybe it’s a stretch to think that an aerial silk theme room would be in a BDSM Club but I liked it.

So I have to rewrite this chapter and then Sasha & Finn have to be set aside again as I turn my attention back to Book Four.

This Tuesday has me kind of feeling gloomy about all the things even though it’s sunny and gorgeous outside.

Sasha & Finn have my attention again and sometimes when you try to rewrite something, the new doesn’t fit with the old, so I’m trying to scratch a whole chapter and rewrite it and argh. But I’m thrilled this is coming together and I promised my newsletter readers first take on it and I’m looking forward to sharing it.

Quick #teasertuesday for Flame Again. Soft moments are found among all the angst.  I’m drinking the good coffee and making spanakopita and writing the words.
