WIP Wednesday (not a thing)

Coz, I’m probably not going to do this on every Wednesday. Anyways, it’s Wednesday, I got words down on Gardena & Dax (I’m looking for a beta reader for this Daddy Dom/Praise Kink *short* story…it’s supposed to be short) this morning and I have more to write on that. We’re almost at the second half. She’s really not going to tell him and it’s so odd, considering she works for the private operative place…geez.

Anyways, thought I’d share the teaser i made for AuthorAgust on IG (@RaleighDamsonBooks if you’re not following me over there), here. And I’m on my second cup of coffee but could use a nap. Or more coffee. Maybe a salad.
Have a good one, friends.

And Monday.

So this week, my household’s usual routine is thrown in the mixer as half of the members are away. I feel utterly exhausted at the moment and by the day, but it was fun and sound and a lot more quieter than I am used to.

And somehow, I managed to get 15k down, which is fine but I feel like I have been on this chapter forever. Gardenia is about to tell Dax her past; it’s not the only secret she’s hiding, but it’s a start. Got a lot of ground to cover in one weekend, you know.

And I have to constantly remember not to forget Gardenia’s cat Snowflake. And on twitter, I called her Snowball…oy. Most of my characters do not have pets and I kind of prefer it that way, though pets are fun and require no character arc/development plot.
Going to try to finish up this chapter and start at a new page for tomorrow.

Feature Friday – August 5th

One week ago today, Flame Again came out! It’s so wild. I remember thinking that this book wouldn’t get done, it wouldn’t get finished. I had ups and downs with beta readers not finishing it (which just meant, they weren’t the readers for this book), I wondered and doubted all the things … but I am super proud of this book and I hope you’ll give it a read. Taking this week to focus on Gardenia and Dax’s story has paid off because I am now seven chapters in and I’m super pleased with the progress.

The contractor finishing the work on the house and taking away all the debris has been a huge weight off my shoulders and now heading into the weekend, I have an overgrown yard that has to be dealt with but if I’m being honest, I kind of want to ignore it. And someone should probably clean the house.

Thanks for cheering me on this week, friends! Give the books below a click- clicking on the cover will bring you to the buy links.

Books Worth Clicking For

Cover for Casey's secerets She could taste the sting.

Max has been Casey’s hero for years, ever since marrying Casey’s mother. His only flaw is how rigid he is about the rules as long as Casey still lives at home. After missing curfew one night, he won’t let her off lightly. She must choose between being grounded for the summer, or enduring a single spanking that will free her to enjoy her vacation.

Casey makes her choice, but neither she nor Max are prepared for the domino effect a few smacks to her backside will have, or the dark secrets that will be revealed as a result.

Max’s past comes back to haunt him in a big way. Casey is a handful, but his old life as part of a two-man team of Doms provides the perfect skills to handle the curious, headstrong young woman with a taste for the taboo, and he and his best friend Rick are the perfect men to give Casey guidance and help her safely explore her dark cravings. But when Max betrays her and Rick refuses to touch her without Max’s permission, Casey despairs that she’ll ever have them both again.

Casey’s education into her new taboo lifestyle isn’t over yet, but her two favorite Doms might need a little educating of their own.

Cover for Royally Complicated
Sex on the beach with a smoking hot stranger…

I blame the tequila.
And the way he rode the waves like he owned them.
And the delicious way the water trickled down over his washboard abs and the V thingy.
And the fact that I’m on the trip that was supposed to be my honeymoon until I caught the bastard cheating.
Yeah, I’m going to blame it on all that.
Because reckless behavior is so not usually me.
But surfer god Fyn is a breath of fresh air I so badly need.
A break from reality of the world around me.
One he seems to need, too.
It’s a single wild moment in my otherwise structured life that seems to be crumbling.
A perfect snapshot in time…
Until the royal guard shows up looking for him.
Turns out the king of the waves is actually a prince.
A real one next in line for the throne.
And I just banged him on the sand.
People say a one-night stand can be good for you, especially after a break-up.
I’m starting to question that advice.
Because finding my prince is only the beginning…
Things are about to get royally complicated.

Cover for Off Limits

Have you ever wanted something you just couldn’t have?

When her mother abandons her, Danica Holland doesn’t want to reach out to her ex-stepfather for help–even though he’s always been the one and only parent she could rely on. But when Social Services intervenes on her behalf, he rushes in with open arms…and broad shoulders, strong hands, and that cleft in his chin that drives women wild.

Cover for Worthy of Mercy

Working for the Bennett brothers gave Nige purpose, and a way to hide behind screens and technology, avoiding that pesky ‘people’ problem that he’d rather avoid. As the few people in his life started pairing off, or whatever the hell the Bennetts were with Cass, he felt loneliness closing in, like never before.

Being on the wrong side of the law had never been a problem for him, because the lines between good and bad, right and wrong… well, they were just lines, and they could be crossed, without harming others. It was all just business, right?

Ted was new to town, new to Nige’s neighbourhood, and literally crashed into his life without warning. Running from a past that he hoped wouldn’t find him again, Ted never planned to get close to anyone, but something about Nige had him hooked. Was it safe to trust another man, and maybe even find happiness this time? Could he even convince this overly cautious, but charmingly inexperienced man to give him a chance?

Nige’s traumatic past had left him scarred, and fighting severe anxiety, while Ted’s led him to hide in an unknown town, with a new name, keeping secrets he hoped would never be revealed. Falling for each other should have been easy, if not for them being on opposing sides of that line, the one between good and bad, right and wrong, lawful and criminal.

Can love overcome all obstacles, or will the many things standing in their way make it impossible? Can Ted accept Nige’s choices, and can they survive when Ted’s past comes calling?

And beyond all of that, how will the Bennetts react when their relationship puts the entire Bennett empire at risk, and alliances begin to fracture? Will Nige have to choose between his love and his life? Will Ted even survive when his identity becomes known, and two worlds collide?

This is a dark romance story, featuring content which may not suit all readers, or may be triggering. It is a standalone book, with HEA, and the characters will appear again in a future book, but will not be the focus of that book.

Break

POV: You finally have an empty house, with blank pages that need to be filled but you’ve been interrupted by two phone calls and six texts in the space of an hour and a half and you are now googling “Remote Cabins.”

Totally love my fam.

Anyways, realizing that I need to get Dax and Gardenia’s story out there, I am putting aside Book Four for this week and I am hoping I have a rough draft of Dax and Gardenia’s story by the end of the week (it’s supposed to be short. It’s going to be a short).

I am struggling with: Should I make this a daddy kink book? This book has a soft kink slant to it, in that Dax prefers sensory/sensual play and praise and doesn’t see the point in rope and as a former US Marine, he doesn’t want to wield anything scary in his off time.

Decisions, decisions.

I think I’m going to save the Daddy kink for a whole other series but I am so tempted. Gardenia is turning out to be way more fun than I thought she would and honestly, I’m smiling at the interpretation of “Human Resources”, as in the fact, that she is an actual resource person for all the humans of Axis Management to turn to when they need things. Between that and her loud bunch of sisters, if only someone would take care of her….

Down the River

I’m still buzzing from the release of Flame Again. If you bought it, thank you so much! It means so much to me that readers are reading my stories.

This morning, pre-coffee, I logged into ‘Zon and went to my KDP dashboard and got the message, “You have no books published.” What? Excuse me, mighty river, I just had a book out less than twenty-four hours ago! Where are my books? A few thousand deep breaths later, I realized I was logged into an old account, that I used to use a decade ago and that’s where I had clicked on my most recent book purchases. Those purchases also weren’t showing up.

I have no idea why that happened and this is the second time this year I’ve needed to cancel this account; I used to review under this account, a long, long time ago, but nothing was showing up. So after I did that, I found my way back to my author account and I re-purchased the last three books I had 1 clicked on because I couldn’t find the trail to those on any card/account, one of those books being F*ck The Patriarchy: Getting Smutty for a Cause.

Whew.

That was an hour of anxiety-inducing I could have skipped. But I got my coffee and cannoli and I’m right back to work on Nick & Mulberry’s story.

Hope you have a good Sunday, friends!

Release Day for Flame Again!

I am so thrilled Flame Again is out in the world! I am excited to share Gabe & Ivy’s story and hope readers fall in love with them, as I did… eventually. Though this book was a  trial to write in the end, I am delighted with how it came out.

Thanks so much to all my readers, ARC Readers, betas and cheerleaders. This indie author thing is a grind at times and all of the support keeps me going. The buy link for Flame Again is here. And if you want to read the first chapter it’s here. And content warnings can be found here.

If you do give Flame Again a read, I hope you find something in it that you enjoy.

On a faded background quote from Flame Again "He made her submissive heart happy"

Not Beating the Heat

If you’re in a heatwave, especially in a place that doesn’t usually have high temps, I’m sorry. It’s awful. I hope you’re staying cool and getting through it and I wish I could send coll breezes through the internet.
We have had a few days of high temps here 30C but we’re more prepared for it-ish and usually, the temps drop here at night. What makes it a heatwave here is that those temps didn’t drop but today it’s down to 23C and rain is expected.

There was a time, before cubs where I loved, loved the heat but ever since being a person who used their body to feed their cubs….nope, can’t take it and I don’t like what the heat does to my body…so yesterday wasn’t a productive day.

But today I am on my second cup of coffee and I am trying to knock off some words on Nick and Mulberry. They’ve just decided that pretending to date is beneficial to all and now they are going to a big fancy thing and they are fighting the mutual attraction, I mean they can try and all. Nick is gonna be so surprised when he finds out what Mulberry’s been hiding. I mean, she has a few secrets but one of them is gonna topple his world and I can’t wait to get to that part.

Feature Friday July 15

Happy Friday!

This week, as my mum would’ve said, has been, “for the birds” and to go off on a tangent, I’ve been contemplating if it’s possible to feed the birds without feeding the squirrels? My cubs have taken an interest in feeding wildlife lately and I wonder if I want to bring some of that home or keep it to the critter and duck feeding at the park.
The end of the week has me working on chapters for Nick and Mulberry and formatting the paperback for Flame Again. I can’t wait till that is done and out because my TBR pile is calling my name! All of these books in this week’s Feature Friday are on it! Give them a click, add them to your TBR pile and feel free to let me know how things are going in your part of the world and if you have wildlife in your yard.
While you’re here, check out Romance Readers Bingo

A dare wasn’t supposed to turn into a hostage situation. Get the hot guy’s number—easy—and when he asked me to go home with him, there wasn’t a chance I was turning it down.

But the gorgeous guy with the piercing green eyes was a goddamn werewolf. Just my luck. If that wasn’t bad enough, he had a centuries-worth vendetta and I wasn’t sticking around to face the repercussions of his prejudices, even if I ached for him.

Greyson

My existence revolved around my pack. They were number one. No excuses. Then she came along and upended my plans.

Art Can’t Always Imitate Life

It feels like forever that I have been working on Sasha and Finn but this story started off as 10k and now it’s hovering between 55k and 65k and it needs a bit more work. The question of how much “realness” can I put into a piece of smexy fiction always crosses my mind. I feel like in some cases, I’ve held back, not wanting to cross into erotica- to try and stay in one genre that is more on the contemporary romance/ romantic suspense side. And then there is the balance of the suspense arc and wanting the suspense arcs to have their storylines intact.

On the good days, I feel like my books have done that. On the days when I read a fine smutty-erotica book, I want to unpublish mine; but I can only make the next book better. And on the very crummy days, I go read about the kind things Ivy Whitaker has said about my books here.

I might just frame this quote so I have it to look at when I have doubts about this series and these two arcs that are written in every book. “I love the balance of kink and the overarching storylines that surround a private security company. It’s difficult to keep those two plot lines going without sacrificing the other, and I have to admit, I’m impressed with how Damson balances these developments.” ~Ivy Whitaker

In Sasha and Finn’s story, I did use a piece of real life, and I plunked into the setting of Club Bandit. And friends, it doesn’t work.

My beta readers thought it did for various reasons; but here’s the thing, I want to write good stories with lots of kink and spicy things; not reinvent the kink wheel.

In a group of friends one evening, a “hey check this out”, the photo was passed around and I thought about that for a long while, mostly because I am in awe of people’s astounding flexibility; you know, when you have none you kind of murmur in admiration and two, it looked beautiful.

It was a photo of a friend of a friend, suspended by aerial silks, and tied in bondage, using the aerial silks.

And when I went to add another theme room to Club Bandit as one does, this entered my mind. But it really doesn’t work. For so many reasons, not the least of which I actually didn’t write a bondage scene, but I used the aerial silks more hammock-like, as something to hold Sasha on, then tie her with, and in the recent edit, bondage is a hard limit for her anyways.
Okay, so maybe you don’t know a circus performer, certified aerial yoga teacher who likes to be a rope bunny on her off nights; fair point.

And maybe it’s a stretch to think that an aerial silk theme room would be in a BDSM Club but I liked it.

So I have to rewrite this chapter and then Sasha & Finn have to be set aside again as I turn my attention back to Book Four.

This Tuesday has me kind of feeling gloomy about all the things even though it’s sunny and gorgeous outside.

Sasha & Finn have my attention again and sometimes when you try to rewrite something, the new doesn’t fit with the old, so I’m trying to scratch a whole chapter and rewrite it and argh. But I’m thrilled this is coming together and I promised my newsletter readers first take on it and I’m looking forward to sharing it.

Quick #teasertuesday for Flame Again. Soft moments are found among all the angst.  I’m drinking the good coffee and making spanakopita and writing the words.
